Amalfi

The Amalfi hillside. Almalfi during Byzantine time was a great naval power. It had a population of 70,000.







Piazza Flavio Gioia. Flavio is credited with inventing the first useful ship compass in 1302. Entrance to the main square.









Sant'Andrea Church on the main square.
Built during the 9th century.













The bronze door of the church came from Constantinople around 1066.













The Bell tower is a mixture of Norman and Arabic style. It was built around 1180.












The Fountain of Sant'Andrea was installed 1760. It is of Barocco style.
