Santa' Andrea : St. Andrew and the Cathedral of Amalfi

Saint Andrew is the patron saint of fisherman. The painting is the crucifixion of Christ.










Saint Andrew's bones were taken to Constantinople. After the Fourth Crusade around 1207 the bones were stolen and brought to Amalfi.








St Andrews relics are said to be buried in its crypt. From the Saint's sepulchre "the Manna" a dense liquid is collected in a crystal ampulla placed atop. This liquid appeared in Patras and Constantinople. The event, " the sign" has been verified in Amalfi for 750 years.







The church interior is baroque with an 18th century gold leaf ceiling. The Apostle Andrews statue is bronze about 2.3 meters tall.
